Current Project In Construction List

I thought it might be interesting to see what projects are currently in construction.

My snail paced effort is a pair of 16 cu.ft. vented enclosures. Each will contain a 416B(thanks Bfish) with a 808-8A and 511B on top.
Options are 2-way with GPA Al. CD diaphragms or 3-way with JBL 2404 tweeters.
I have the components for active or passive crossovers.

The enclosure panels have longitudinal re-inforcement braces with radial spines for stiffening. Think of old ship building.

Assembly of the enclosure panels is nigh.

What have you got on the go?

Gawd...

A pair of Stonehenge V for 604Es.

A pair of Stonehenge V modified to include an 811 in the top making a tall M19.

A couple of double 15 LF cabinets.

Possibly a slant fronted centred Stonehenge V type box for a 604 centre channel.

That's enough for this decade.

Pile o Frazier horn tweeters....













All somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 ohms.....



I've connected 5 pairs all in parallel, and then strung the 5 parallel pairs in series to get about 17-18 ohms, DCR.


Hmmmm. What can I possibly do with 5 pairs of horns at about 16-20 ohms?????

The Simplex XL crossover is set up to be able to handle 2 HF horns, so with a simple 2 uF Sprague 118P cap in series before the positive connector of the first pair of horns, figger roughly a 10 KHz crossover point.


It does make sound, but at a lower SPL than the 288's. I may not be connecting things up right at the crossover, or maybe I need to tap into the signal before the XL crossover because of some capacitance issues with what's contained in the Simplex crossover.

I'm also wondering if a horn tweeter array with a large number of drivers is inherently inefficient. I'm taking a WAG that trying to move the mass of 10 separate diaphragms must cause some efficiency loss vs. a single driver.....

But most folks don't have that many little tweeter horns. Where did you get them all?

I think, but am not sure, that if you wire them to stay at about the same impedance (8ohm) then sensitivity will not change much, if any. Distortion should be much lower for a given level, tho. And the pattern much wider, of course. Which may mean you actually get an spl increase on the power response.

Is that a 1005 underneath? The Frazier horns seem to be a good fit.

I had an inspiration when playing with a pair of the tweeters awhile back...





I traded a nice medium powered Phillips receiver for the whole lot, minus the 2 pair I had already obtained.

And yes, that's one of my 1005 Tar filleds underneath. If the flanges of the tweeters were removed, they would essentially line up with the cells of the 1005....
